Many Ugandans online are mourning with the Uganda Police Force after one of their officers was reportedly killed by an angry group of people.
The officer, Police Constable (PC) Chemonges Suleiman, was only 28 years old. He worked at Bisheshe Police Station in Ibanda District. Reports say he was attacked and killed while on duty at a burial ceremony.
PC Chemonges was guarding the funeral of Kahangire Lazarus, a prisoner who had died at Nyambuhikye Government Prison, also located in Ibanda District. During the incident, police managed to recover an SMG rifle and 16 bullets from the crime scene.
His body was taken to Ruhoko Health Center morgue for an autopsy, which will help find out what exactly caused his death. Funeral arrangements are also being made.
Uganda Police said they are working hard to catch everyone involved in this violent act. They promised that those responsible will be arrested and punished according to the law.
As the country grieves, many are sending messages of sympathy to the family and friends of PC Chemonges. May his soul rest in peace.
The public is also being reminded not to take the law into their own hands.
