A tragic incident occurred in Uganda when an Arsenal fan, John Ssenyonga, was shot dead by a security officer for celebrating Arsenal’s goal against Manchester United on Wednesday.

The incident took place at Afric Restaurant in the Uganda Cares building in Lukaya town. Witnesses reported that the trouble began around 6:30 PM Uganda time when Arsenal fans celebrated their team’s second goal in a match against Manchester United.

The restaurant owner turned off the lights to calm the celebrations, but fans continued to cheer loudly as Arsenal secured a key victory in the Premier League. The security officer, Richard Okecho, demanded silence but later opened fire, killing Ssenyonga and injuring another fan, Lawrence.

It remains unclear if Okecho was a Manchester United fan. This incident follows another tragedy two months earlier, where an Arsenal fan, Onan, killed a Manchester United fan, Benjamin Okello, over a football argument in Kabale.

Goals from Jurrien Timber and William Saliba helped Arsenal secure the win, keeping them within seven points of league leaders Liverpool.
