This is Uganda Airlines’ first-ever route to Europe
Uganda Airlines has officially launched its long-awaited direct flights to London, a major step forward for the national airline. Starting May 18, 2025, the carrier will fly four times a week between Entebbe International Airport and London Gatwick Airport.
This is Uganda Airlines’ first-ever route to Europe, and it brings back direct travel between Uganda and the UK for the first time since British Airways stopped its flights nearly 10 years ago.
The airline’s CEO, Ms. Jenifer Bamuturaki, described the launch as a big move towards growth:
"This route marks the end of our establishment phase and sets us on the course for sustained development."
She also emphasized the importance of the UK-Uganda connection:
"The direct flights will provide unparalleled convenience for travelers, catering to the growing demand for seamless travel between the two nations.""Uganda and the United Kingdom share deep historical, cultural, and economic ties, and this new route is expected to bolster trade, tourism, and investment opportunities. Industry reports have consistently identified Entebbe as one of Africa’s most underserved markets for London, making Uganda Airlines’ entry a highly anticipated development."
Flights on this route will use the modern Airbus A330 aircraft, and will link passengers from London directly to the airline’s wider African network. Uganda Airlines already flies to cities like Nairobi, Johannesburg, Lagos, Juba, Mogadishu, Dar es Salaam, Kinshasa, Bujumbura, and Harare, with Accra being planned as a future route.
Uganda, often called the Pearl of Africa, is famous for its scenic beauty, rich wildlife, and cultural heritage. The UK has always been one of Uganda’s biggest tourism markets, and this new direct connection is expected to boost tourism and make travel easier for British visitors.
