Rafael Nadal has declared that he is finally retiring from tennis after an illustrious four-decade-long active career. The Spaniard aged 38 and a holder of 22 Grand Slam titles is likely to play his last game in the hair-splitting Davis Cup Final in Malaga next month. He has been plagued with injuries for two years and after losing to Djokovic at the Paris Olympics has decided to hang his boots in professional tennis.

Out of the many nicknames given to sleeper Rafael Nadal, “King of Clay,” seems to be the most famous because most people associate his name with victories at the French Open, which he won 14 titles, a record no one has beaten to date. But his success did not end there.

Four titles at the US Open, including two at Wimbledon and one Australian Open increasing the total of championships to 22. Also, other than the Grand Slams, Nadal returned home with singles and doubles Olympics gold medals along with Spain’s four Davis Cup victories.
