Benin took an early lead in the 42nd minute through a goal by A. Hountondji, placing pressure on Rwanda as the first half drew to a close. However, the Rwandan team rallied back in the second half, with I. Nshuti equalizing in the 70th minute. The match reached its climax five minutes later when D. This victory is particularly crucial for Rwanda, boosting their position in Group D. They now stand third with 5 points, just one point behind Benin, who despite the loss, remain in second place with 6 points. Nigeria leads the group with 7 points, while Libya is at the bottom with just 1 point.
As Rwanda continues their journey in the qualifiers, this win places them in a more favorable position to advance. Benin, on the other hand, will aim to recover in their upcoming matches as the race in Group D tightens.
