Amavubi coach Torsten Spittler questions the handling of his contract renewal as Rwanda reflects on their AFCON qualifiers performance.
Rwanda’s national football coach, Frank Torsten Spittler, has voiced concerns over how discussions for his contract renewal were handled. The German tactician, whose one-year contract is about to expire, said the proposal presented to him lacked clarity.
“They showed me the terms, but it wasn’t clear, so I didn’t pay much attention to it,”
Spittler stated.
“What they offered was disappointing. They even asked for my performance stats, which I didn’t provide. If they want me to stay, this isn’t the way to approach it.”
When asked if he was willing to extend his contract, Spittler declined to comment.
The debate comes after Rwanda narrowly missed qualifying for the Africa Cup of Nations. The Amavubi finished third in Group C, level on eight points with Benin, who advanced alongside Nigeria.
Spittler’s record as head coach has drawn mixed reactions. In 14 games, he managed six wins, four draws, and four losses. His team scored 13 goals, conceded nine, and kept seven clean sheets, fueling discussions among fans about whether he should remain in charge.
