Museveni meets Togo’s President Gnassingbé to boost security and strengthen Uganda–Togo ties.

President Yoweri Museveni welcomed President Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé of Togo at State Lodge Nakasero on April 22, 2025. The two leaders had a private discussion focused on growing regional cooperation, improving peace and security in Africa, and boosting ties between Uganda and Togo.

President Museveni spoke about the need for African countries to work together to solve shared challenges—especially security issues that affect development. He stressed unity as a key to achieving progress across the continent.

Togo, a West African country located between Ghana and Benin, has a population of around 9.5 million people. Its president, Faure Gnassingbé, has shown increasing interest in strengthening ties with East African nations like Uganda.

Several high-level Ugandan officials joined the meeting, including former Prime Minister Rt. Hon. Amama Mbabazi, Minister of Agriculture Hon. Frank Tumwebaze, Foreign Affairs Minister Gen. Jeje Odongo, and ESO Director General Ambassador Joseph Ocwet. Togo’s delegation was led by Foreign Affairs Minister Mr. Robert Dussey.
