Pastor Joseph Sserwadda of Victory Christian Centre has unveiled a significant initiative: the construction of a high-end stadium known as the “Balokole Stadium.” The estimated cost for this undertaking is $388 million (approximately Shs 1.26 trillion), and it will require at least 100 acres of land.
Initially, the project was projected to be less expensive, but after consulting with a team of experts, it became clear that more resources and space would be needed. Pastor Sserwadda stated, “We have picked a team of experts and held meetings with them, and they told us that we need $388 million or Shs 1.26 trillion for the project.”
Designed to serve both national events and the born-again community, the stadium will host government functions, sports events, and activities for people preparing for such events in advance. Key features include a 5-star hotel for up to 200 VIP guests, a conference center for 10,000 attendees, wedding gardens, and extensive parking facilities.
Joel Zziwa, a church elder, elaborated that the site would include more than just worship areas. “The team of experts gave us a plan for how the stadium would look. It will be surrounded by shopping centers, a university, a chapel, and accommodation facilities,” he said.
The church remains confident that the necessary resources will come together. Zziwa expressed faith in the project’s success, saying, “We left that meeting believing that God has everything we need.”
The idea for the stadium was sparked by a disappointing experience Pastor Sserwadda encountered last year. After booking Namboole Stadium for an annual Passover prayer event, he was informed just days before the event that the venue was no longer available. No proper explanation was given, leaving him to find a last-minute location near Kabaka’s Lake in Ndeeba.
In response to that situation, Pastor Sserwadda launched a fundraising campaign to ensure the born-again community has a dedicated venue. This fundraiser was attended by several senior pastors, many of whom pledged financial support for the project.
