Hon. Nyeko Derrick
The National Unity Platform (NUP), Uganda’s main opposition party, is now in a tight spot after one of its own Members of Parliament, Hon. Nyeko Derrick, threatened to name fellow MPs who he says received UGX 100 million from President Museveni. He called this money the “Easter package.”
Nyeko has always spoken out against government bribes. This time, he says some opposition MPs took the money in secret. According to him, these MPs have betrayed the trust of the people who elected them.
“We shall soon name the MPs who accepted the UGX 100 million,” Nyeko warned in a strong message shared publicly.
This statement has caused serious tension within the party. While some NUP members are supporting Nyeko, others are denying the claims, saying they never took any money and know nothing about such deals.
There are also suspicions that the money was given to MPs to help pass government policies that are not popular with the public.

This isn’t the first time such accusations have surfaced in Ugandan politics. In the past, there have been several reports of government giving out cash to weaken the opposition and win votes on important bills. These reports have always caused division and mistrust among party members.
So far, the NUP leadership has not released any official response. But Nyeko’s words have already made people start questioning the unity and honesty inside the party.
If the bribery claims are true, it could seriously harm NUP’s image, especially as Uganda prepares for the 2026 elections.
Nyeko says he has proof and plans to show it soon. Many people are now waiting to see if he will really name names and what evidence he has.
This could lead to new twists in Uganda’s politics, especially if the allegations shake up the opposition ahead of the next elections.
