At the 8th African Leadership Forum held in Munyonyo, Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni raised important questions about trade between Africa and rich countries. He pointed out that many African nations still mostly export raw materials, while developed countries sell back expensive processed goods. This, he said, creates an unfair trade system.
President Museveni said he recently met with a group of American officials. During that meeting, he asked them to send a message to President Donald Trump. He wants the U.S. government to clearly explain its plans and priorities when it comes to trading with African countries.
Museveni said, “I told the American delegation to deliver a message to Mr. Trump’s government. They need to be clear about trade matters with Africa.”
President Museveni has long pushed for fairer trade, where African countries can also export processed goods and benefit more from their natural resources.
