Masoud Juma Breaks Silence on Cape Town City Struggles

Masoud Juma reflects on his challenging stint at Cape Town City and shares lessons learned from injuries and career setbacks.
Harambee Stars player Masoud Juma has shared his struggles during his time at Cape Town City in 2018. Juma had scored 23 goals for Kariobangi Sharks in the 2017 FKF Premier League, but his move to the South African team came with challenges.
Juma joined Cape Town City under coach Benni McCarthy, a former Manchester United assistant. However, an injury he got during the 2017 CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup affected his form. Juma explained on Buzz Sports,
"We won CECAFA, but I got injured during the second game against Libya. I tore my ligaments, but for the final, I scored a goal to salvage a draw before we won on penalties. That injury, however, got worse."
Due to his injury, Juma missed the start of the season and only debuted in March. He played eight matches and scored once, but it was hard to regain his form. Cape Town City’s limit on foreign players led to him being sidelined, and a planned loan to an Egyptian team failed because of his agent.
"They wanted to send me on loan to Egypt. Everything was ready, but my agent didn’t finalize the transfer,"
Juma said. This led to his contract being terminated, though the club paid him as promised. After this, he returned to Kenya and faced isolation.
"People thought I had failed. I stayed away from interviews and trained to regain my fitness,"
Juma shared.
Later, Juma moved to Dubai, where he scored four goals in 10 games for Dibba Al Fujairah. He also played in Algeria for JS Kabylie and Morocco for Difaa. Reflecting on his journey, Juma emphasized how injuries, unreliable agents, and resilience taught him valuable lessons.
Though his time at Cape Town City ended badly, Juma’s story inspires others, showing how setbacks can lead to new opportunities.
