In a thrilling contest at Wembley, Manchester City emerged victorious against Manchester United in the 2024 Community Shield, securing the win through a tense penalty shootout after the match ended 1-1 in regulation time.


The game burst into life in the second half when Alejandro Garnacho broke the deadlock with a stunning solo effort, putting United ahead. However, City's Bernardo Silva equalized in the final moments, forcing the match into a shootout. The penalty drama saw Jadon Sancho and Jonny Evans miss their spot-kicks for United, allowing City to claim the Shield with a 7-6 victory.


Manchester United will now shift focus to their Premier League opener against Fulham at Old Trafford next Friday, while Manchester City, under the guidance of Pep Guardiola, will begin their title defense on Sunday at Stamford Bridge against Chelsea.
