Dorcus Bashema Kirabo, also known as Mama D, became famous worldwide after setting a Guinness World Record for the longest solo cooking marathon.
She began her cooking session on December 23, 2023, at Zoe’s Cakes 'n' Bites in Kira, Wakiso District. Her goal was to break the previous record of 119 hours and 57 minutes set by Irish chef Alan Fisher. Her accomplishment was widely recognized as proof of her hard work and talent in cooking.
After achieving this milestone, Mama D is now focusing on politics. She has officially announced her intention to run for Member of Parliament (MP) in Kira Municipality in the 2026 elections. Through her X account, she shared her plans with the public
“Dear People of Kira Municipality, I am honoured to announce that I will be standing for Member of Parliament in Kira Municipality as an independent candidate. My journey has always been about service, impact, and empowering our community. Now, I am stepping forward to champion a brighter future for Kira—one where we feed hope and shape the future together.
Under the banner of ‘A Stronger Kira – Feeding Hope, Shaping the Future,’ I invite you to be part of this movement. Your support—whether through donations, volunteering, or spreading the message—will be the foundation upon which we build a better Kira.
Every contribution counts, and together, we can create lasting change. If you believe in this cause, join us today. Let’s walk this journey hand in hand, for a Kira that thrives, uplifts, and stands strong.”
Her entry into the political race is expected to make the contest for the Kira Municipality parliamentary seat more competitive. The National Unity Platform (NUP) is likely to field lawyer George Musisi, although his official confirmation from the party is still pending. The current MP, Hon. Ssemujju Nganda, has also announced his intention to seek re-election.
