Former Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos has revealed the emotional difficulty he faced in telling his son and manager Carlo Ancelotti about his retirement. Kroos retired from professional football at the end of last season, following the conclusion of Euro 2024 in Germany.

In an interview with MARCA, the former Germany international said: “The most difficult thing was telling Ancelotti and my son that I was retiring. It was really complicated.”

Kroos also spoke about his love for Real Madrid, saying,

“I love Real Madrid, in the most realistic sense of the word." He reflected on his farewell at the Santiago Bernabéu, calling it a moment he would "keep in his heart forever."
