General Muhoozi sparks controversy with a social media poll on Kizza Besigye’s fate

General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, Uganda’s First Son and Chief of Defence Forces, has caused an uproar after sharing controversial statements on social media platform X. He suggested that Ugandans should decide the fate of opposition leader Dr. Kizza Besigye.

In his post, Muhoozi asked Ugandans to vote on whether Besigye should be forgiven or face execution.

He wrote:

"Let Ugandans decide Besigye's fate. Those who want us to forgive him, retweet. Those who want him hanged, like."

He later mentioned that he would make a final decision the next morning after seeking guidance from his faith.

"I will make my decision tomorrow morning, after talking to my God, Jesus Christ. So finish your voting."

Additionally, Muhoozi accused Besigye of trying to harm President Yoweri Museveni, calling it an unforgivable crime.

"Besigye wanted to kill my father. Amongst the Bachwezi, that is the worst crime. I must protect my father!"

These remarks have sparked widespread criticism, with many Ugandans denouncing the poll as dangerous and inflammatory.

Dr. Kizza Besigye, a long-time opposition leader and former personal doctor to Museveni, has been arrested multiple times for challenging the government. His political struggles have made him a significant figure in Uganda’s opposition movement.
