Leaders from the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) in Lira City have shown their full support for Health Minister Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng in the 2026 parliamentary elections. The announcement was made at her home in Ireda, Lira City East.
Even though Dr. Aceng is a member of the ruling NRM party, FDC members said they chose her because of her strong work and leadership. FDC’s General Secretary, Okello Newton Freddie, said 253 leaders agreed to back her after talking for a month.
Obote Denis, the FDC Chairman in Lira City, said, “We are still FDC, but we believe Dr. Aceng has done a good job and deserves our support.” He added that they will help her get votes in the next election.
The FDC leaders made it clear that their decision was not about politics but about choosing someone who brings development. They also said they still don’t support the NRM government.
Other FDC leaders, led by Moses Etyang, signed a document to show their support for Dr. Aceng. They promised to run a calm and peaceful campaign based on issues, not fights.
Janet Oroma, the head of FDC’s women group, also spoke up for Dr. Aceng. She encouraged people to vote for her again so she can keep bringing progress to the area.
Dr. Aceng is currently the Woman MP for Lira City and also works as Minister of Health in President Museveni’s government.
