The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) leaders in Lira City have decided to support Health Minister Hon. Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng Ocero as their choice for the Lira City Woman Member of Parliament (MP) seat for the 2026-2031 term.

The decision was made after a meeting on March 15, 2025, at Dr. Aceng’s home in Ireda, Lira City East Division. A total of 253 FDC leaders from different parts of the city attended the meeting and declared their support for her. They praised her leadership and efforts in developing Lira City.

The FDC leaders also promised to help gather votes for her in the upcoming election. They made this decision after conducting consultations across the city for a month. Although they remain opposed to the ruling NRM government, they feel that the future of Lira City is very important.

Since both candidates for the seat are NRM ministers, the FDC leaders believe that Dr. Aceng is the better option because of her work record.

They made it clear that their support for Dr. Aceng does not mean they have left the FDC party. They remain loyal members and are backing her based only on her performance as Lira City Woman MP and Uganda’s Health Minister.

The leaders also stated that their campaign will focus on real issues and will be peaceful. They rejected any form of threats, false accusations, or personal attacks during the elections.

In their statement, they urged the people of Lira City to vote for Dr. Aceng again in 2026 so that she can continue improving the city.

The endorsement was signed by Okello Newton Freddie (General Secretary FDC Lira City), Obote Denis (Chairman FDC Lira City), Moses Etyang (Chairman FDC Lira City East Division), Mzee Ogwal Bonny (Chairman FDC Lira City West Division), and Ms. Oroma Janet (Chairperson Women’s League FDC Lira City).
