Tayebwa Denies Social Media Claims of Relationship With Sheilah Gashumba
Thomas Tayebwa, the Deputy Speaker of the Ugandan Parliament, has dismissed allegations circulating on social media that he is romantically involved with socialite Sheilah Gashumba.
The rumor was started by TikToker Ssenga Acid, who is based in Canada. In a viral video, she claimed that Sheilah Gashumba had supposedly joined Tayebwa’s family. However, Tayebwa firmly denied these claims, stating that they are entirely false.
Tayebwa Addresses Parliament
During a parliamentary session yesterday, Tayebwa spoke about the issue, expressing his disbelief at how quickly false information spreads online. He revealed that his wife, Anita Tayebwa Rukundo, was the first to show him the video.
“I just woke up and saw a woman making a video about me, claiming I was having an affair with a well-known celebrity. She looked serious as if she was breaking real news,” Tayebwa said.
Tayebwa criticized the growing trend of misinformation on TikTok, explaining that some content creators fabricate stories to attract viewers and earn money. He pointed out that Ssenga Acid, the person behind the claims, lives in Canada and makes false allegations while staying safely abroad.
“She is on TikTok in Canada, confidently talking about someone she has never spoken to and whose phone number I don’t even have,” he stated.
Tayebwa also mentioned that TikTok's monetization system encourages people to spread misleading stories just to gain views and followers. He further added that while Ssenga Acid speaks Luganda in her videos, she is actually a Mukiga from Kabale, subtly suggesting that she is an outsider trying to stir up unnecessary controversy.
In conclusion, Tayebwa called for responsible use of social media, urging people to verify information before spreading baseless rumors.
