Rwandan sports journalists face allegations of misconduct, sparking controversy within the media and football community, including APR FC leadership disputes.

Rwandan sports journalists are facing serious accusations of bribery, misconduct, and stirring divisions. The controversy started on November 10, 2024, during an Instagram discussion hosted by Radio 10 journalist Mucyo Antha, featuring footballers Danny Usengimana and Byiringiro Lague.

Mucyo Antha has been accused by some fans of APR FC, one of Rwanda's top football clubs, of contributing to poor player recruitment. He denied the claims, saying they stem from jealousy, and counter-accused other journalists of unethical behavior such as drinking excessively and abusing their platforms.

Division Within APR FC

The issues extend to APR FC, where former chairman Col (Rtd) Richard Karasira was criticized for involving outsiders in the club's management, including Mucyo Antha. This group, labeled "Abapampe," was accused of focusing on personal interests rather than the club’s success.

Antha defended his role, stating his involvement was purely professional, while blaming the club’s struggles on others, including journalist Sam Karenzi. He maintained that he is not biased towards any specific team and claimed to focus on his work in sports management.

Response from Isibo Radio

Isibo Radio responded strongly to Antha's remarks, accusing him of creating divisions within several clubs, including Police FC and Rayon Sports. They called for accountability and highlighted allegations of mismanagement associated with his name.

Karenzi's Defense

Journalist Sam Karenzi refuted Antha's claims, stating that APR FC's player acquisitions were handled by a team. He urged transparency and challenged those making allegations to provide evidence.

Leadership Changes at APR FC

Leadership changes at APR FC, including the removal of key figures like Col (Rtd) Karasira, have left fans divided. Some still support the outgoing management, while others focus on the team’s future.

The ongoing disputes reveal deeper challenges within Rwandan football and the sports journalism industry.
