Ugandan opposition leader, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, also known as Bobi Wine, has spoken out against the country’s Parliament. He was surprised that the Leader of the Opposition received a service award before even starting the job.
Bobi Wine said it doesn’t make sense to give an award to someone who hasn’t done any work yet. He believes such awards should be earned through real action and leadership. Giving them too early makes the awards lose their value, he said.
He shared his concerns in a public statement, pointing out that such actions send the wrong message to the public. Bobi Wine also warned that this kind of move shows a bigger problem in Ugandan politics — where people are sometimes rewarded based on connections or politics, not hard work.
His comments have led to many discussions among civil society groups, political experts, and citizens. Some people are asking if the award was really deserved or just a political move.
Many now feel that such decisions may reduce people’s trust in the political system and question the fairness in how leaders are recognized.
