Stade Amahoro will host its first athletics competition after three years. Starting at 8:00 AM, participants will compete in races of 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1500m, 3000m, 5000m, 10,000m, 4x100m, and 4x400m relays.Other events include long jump, triple jump, javelin throw, discus throw, and shot put.


A total of 1,117 athletes registered for the event, including 268 men, 279 women, 288 boys, and 282 girls. Teams involved are APR AC, Police AC, Sina Gérard AC, GS St Aloys, Nyaruguru, Rutsiro, Nyamasheke, Huye, Kinyinya AC, Kavumu AC, and Vision Jeunesse Nouvelle AC.


This marks the first athletics championship in Stade Amahoro since renovations made it suitable for various competitions, including athletics.


In 2023, the National Championships were held in Bugesera, where the Sina Gérard team won the women’s category and overall title with 15 gold, eight bronze, and three silver medals. In the men’s category, the University of Rwanda’s Huye campus (UR-Huye) won with six gold, one bronze, and three silver medals.


Kamonyi came third overall, thanks to Umutesi Uwase Magnificent, who won three gold medals, adding two silver medals to the team’s tally. APR placed fourth with three gold medals, one silver, and three bronze medals.

Twenty athletes who participated in the 2023 Kigali International Marathon were absent as they were in training in Gicumbi.
