Super Eagles striker, Victor Osimhen, has expressed his joy after Nigeria secured a convincing 3-0 victory over Benin Republic in their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying match on Saturday.

Osimhen, who scored one of the goals, alongside Ademola Lookman’s brace, led Nigeria to triumph over Gernot Rohr’s Benin Republic, avenging their previous defeat in a World Cup qualifier in June, where Nigeria fell 2-1 under former coach Finidi George.

Reflecting on the victory, Osimhen emphasized the significance of the win in an interview with the Counter Attack Podcast.

“It was a crucial game for us and a statement win because our recent performances haven’t reflected the quality of talent we have in the team,"

Osimhen stated.

He continued,

“The last time we faced Benin, they beat us, so this match felt like revenge. I’m happy we gave our all and secured the three points.”

The victory marks a strong start for Nigeria in the 2025 AFCON qualifying campaign as they aim to build momentum for the tournament.
