During a news conference today at the headquarters of the National Unity Platform (NUP), opposition leader Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, better known as Bobi Wine, issued a stark warning to Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) and son of President Yoweri Museveni.
Bobi Wine cautioned that no one holds power forever and stressed that Muhoozi would be personally responsible for any alleged human rights abuses under his command. He reminded Muhoozi that his father's extended tenure in Uganda would eventually end.
"You will personally be accountable. Your father cannot be in charge of our country forever. Only brainless people fail to understand that," Bobi Wine firmly stated.
He also highlighted that neither Muhoozi nor his family could evade accountability, especially in today's digital era where hiding from justice is increasingly difficult.
"You will be here. Your children will be here. Or anywhere in the world. And the world is a global village. One day, the long hand of justice will come for you, pick you, and bring you back to Uganda," he cautioned.
This event comes as Uganda approaches the 2026 general elections, amidst growing political unrest with frequent reports of arrests and harassment of opposition members.
Bobi Wine has consistently criticized the government's oppressive measures against dissent, condemning the security forces for illegal arrests, torture, and the brutal suppression of protests.
He remains unyielding in his pursuit of change in Uganda, despite facing threats and violence.
"You can jail us, you can kill us, you can rape our sisters, you can sodomize our brothers, you can do all manner of evil. But we will not stop," he declared resolutely.
Bobi Wine's message has struck a chord with many in Uganda, growing tired of the longstanding political situation. While President Museveni has kept a tight hold on power for almost 40 years, voices of opposition like Bobi Wine continue to demand democratic reforms and accountability.
