VP Dr. Philip Mpango stresses efforts on environmental conservation
Tanzanian Vice President Dr Philip Mpango
Vice President Dr Philip Mpango has emphasized the need for public education programme organizers to focus on increasing awareness and encouraging community involvement in environmental conservation and management.
Speaking at the closing of the 109th annual meeting of public education programme producers in Mbeya, Dr Mpango highlighted the importance of collective efforts in promoting environmental protection and the use of clean cooking energy. He stressed that this responsibility should involve the media and all relevant stakeholders.
He urged media outlets to develop and broadcast programmes that focus on cleanliness, environmental conservation, and clean energy use. According to him, these topics should be part of regular programming rather than only being discussed during crises such as disease outbreaks, forest fires, or floods.
He stated, "Issues related to environmental conservation and the use of clean cooking energy must be a key part of our programmes, rather than waiting for events such as disease outbreaks, forest fires, or floods to occur."
Additionally, the Vice-President encouraged public education programme producers to continuously update their knowledge and provide accurate information on scientific and technological advancements.
He noted that keeping up with developments in fields like artificial intelligence, robotics, and internet safety could inspire Tanzanians to embrace new technologies. He said, "This will help to inspire Tanzanians to embrace emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, robotics, and the safe use of the internet."
Dr Mpango also addressed the ethical use of the internet, advising users to respect media industry standards, laws, and Tanzanian customs that uphold human dignity. He pointed out that some social media users share content without considering its impact on others, often posting harmful or offensive material.
Furthermore, he encouraged all public education programme producers to use the Kiswahili language correctly and ensure that information shared does not create misunderstandings or conflicts within the country.
He urged them to focus on development and unity, saying, "Let's focus on development."
Dr Mpango’s remarks served as a call to action for media professionals and other stakeholders to take responsibility in educating the public on crucial issues, fostering a more informed and responsible society.
