Zanzibar hosted the 2025 Trace Awards, celebrating Africa's music scene with Tanzanian artist Diamond Platnumz winning big
Zanzibar was the proud host of the 2025 Trace Awards on February 26th, marking a memorable celebration of Africa's vibrant music scene. The event brought together some of Africa's top talent to honor the rich diversity of music across the continent, with special attention to genres like Afrobeats and Amapiano.
Diamond Platnumz, one of Tanzania's top artists, won the Best Global African Artist award. Known for his unique blend of Bongo Flava with global music styles, Diamond's victory reinforces his status as an influential international music star with a vast fanbase.
Zuchu, another Tanzanian artist, was awarded the Zanzibar Award for her profound impact on the local music scene. Her distinctive voice and powerful lyrics have made her a leading figure in East African music.
Nandy, referred to as the ‘African Princess,’ won the Best Tanzanian Artist award. Her music, which combines traditional African sounds with modern rhythms, along with her commitment to music, has kept her at the top of the charts.
Celebrating Talent from Across Africa
The Trace Awards also recognized other African artists for their contributions to the music industry. The Song of the Year went to South Africa's Titom & Yuppe for "Tshwala Bam," a song that became a global dance hit. Nigerian artist Rema had a successful evening, taking home the Album of the Year for "Heis" and Best Male Artist, cementing his role as a prominent figure in Afrobeats.
South Africa’s Tyla received the Best Female Artist award for her captivating sound that has gained international attention. The Best Collaboration was awarded to Ivorian artists Tam Sir & Team Paiya for their hit "Coup du Marteau." Additionally, Mercy Chinwo from Nigeria was named Best Gospel Artist.
The ceremony also highlighted Africa's cultural variety with awards for regional talents, including Bien from Kenya (Best East African Artist), Josey from Ivory Coast (Best French-Speaking Artist), Chelsea Dinorath from Angola (Best Portuguese-Speaking Artist), Didi B from Ivory Coast (Best Hip Hop Artist), and DJ Moh Green from Algeria (Best DJ).
