Prolonged screen time can lead to digital eye strain

In contemporary times characterized by technology, we have been surrounded by and using phones, tablets, computers, and televisions for several hours a day. This use of the screen for an extended period has risks, one of the most common being that of digital eye strain hence the presence of headaches blurred vision or even dry, reddened and irritated eyes due to the enhanced use of screens. Fortunately, even in such situations there are measures that can be undertaken to help prevent the user from feeling too much discomfort in the eyes.

There are 6 simple ways you can relieve digital eye strain:

1.Follow The 20-20-20 Rule

You might also want to consider following the 20-20-20 rule that treats eye exhaustion. Every 20 minutes of continuous activity, one must try to look at something other than the object in front for twenty seconds at a distance of around20 feet. This aids in relieving the eye’s muscles and losing the tension.

2.Follow The 20-20-20 Rule

It is best that users keep the computer screen at least an arm’s length distance from their eyes. The upper edge of the screen should be positioned at or slightly lower than the horizontal line of sight to avoid muscle tension accrual on the neck, and also to help decrease fatigue on the eyes.

3.Change The Color Of Your Device

There is scientific evidence that the blue light emitted by the gadgets is responsible for the effects associated with digital eye strain, Smartphones and Tablets include the ‘night mode’ navigating the standard colour of the device, or ‘dark mode’ which one relies on before bedtime and during the night for the majority of users..

4. Optimize Room Lighting

A dim and gentle light should be maintained in your room. Too much brightness may be avoided by keeping away the devices from direct surfaces of light. In a perfect world, the light from the screen should never be more in intensity than the level of light around the screen.

5. Use Artificial Tears

Use artificial tears whenever your eyes are feeling dry or tired to get instant relief. These also act as a manure to the eyes which makes it easier to fight the odds caused by prolonged periods of screen usage.

6. Take Regular Breaks

Make sure to take periodic rest from working on the screen during the course of the day Break away from screen rest and do some stretches and do non-screen activities which is beneficial for the eyes.

Practicing these few simple things in your days can alleviate most of the discomfort and pain associated with digital eye strain and help keep the eyes in a good state.
