Tanzania's national team risks disqualification from the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations due to alleged player registration issues.
Tanzania’s national football team could lose its 1-0 win against Guinea, potentially costing them a spot in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
After losing to Tanzania, Guinea’s Football Federation filed a complaint with the Confederation of African Football (CAF), claiming Tanzania violated player registration rules.
The issue involves player Muhamed Ibrahim, who was listed as wearing jersey number 24 but entered the field wearing number 26, a number not on the official match list.
CAF regulations (Article 46 and 50) state that if a team makes player registration errors, they can be disqualified from the tournament and forfeit the game where the mistake occurred.
Muhamed Ibrahim substituted Ally Samantha in the 76th minute when Tanzania was leading 1-0. Ibrahim, who plays for FC Mashujaa, is known for his defensive skills.
CAF will announce its decision before the final list of countries for the 2025 CAN is published.
