Manchester City suffer first defeat of the season

Tottenham knocked Manchester City out of the League Cup with a 2-1 win. Timo Werner opened the scoring in the 1/8 final match, scoring in the 5th minute. 20 minutes later, Pap Sarr doubled the Spurs' lead, and before the break, the visitors got one back through Matheus Nunes. The spectators did not see any goals in the second half. Thus, Josep Guardiola's team suffered their first defeat in the current campaign.

The Citizens' previous defeat in an official match was on May 25, when City lost to Manchester United in the FA Cup final (1:2).

After nine rounds of the 2024/25 Premier League, the current champions lead the standings with 23 points (seven wins and two draws), one point ahead of Liverpool.
