South Africa pressed for an equalizer and were rewarded deep into stoppage time when Thalente Mbatha , making his debut, scored in the 95th minute to secure a draw. Credit:gettyimages Former Liverpool midfielder Jamie Redknapp criticized Manchester City following their 2-1 Premier League defeat to Brighton on Saturday, calling it one of the worst performances he has seen from a Pep Guardiola team. Speaking on Sky Sports, Redknapp expressed his disappointment with City’s second-half display, pointing out their lack of defensive discipline, inability to win individual battles, and hesitance to move the ball forward. He remarked, “That is one of the worst halves of football I have seen from a Pep Guardiola side. They were abject; they didn’t defend, didn’t win individual battles, and didn’t pass the ball forward at times.” Although City showed promise in the first half, Redknapp observed how Brighton took control in the second half after manager Benjamin Hurzeler’s substitutions. Goals from Joao Pedro and Matt O’Riley clinched the win for Brighton, leaving City with much to reflect on following an uncharacteristic loss. • Ethiopia Bondholders Express Disappointment Over Proposed 20% Haircut on $1 Billion Eurobond | Xtrafrica

Ethiopia Bondholders Express Disappointment Over Proposed 20% Haircut on $1 Billion Eurobond Mbeki edmond Aug 14, 2024 Facebook X (Twitter) WhatsApp Copy link Addis Ababa, Ethiopia's capital Addis Ababa, Ethiopia –Ethiopia's recent proposal to impose a 20% haircut on its $1 billion Eurobond has sparked frustration among foreign bondholders, who argue that the move contradicts the country's economic potential. The creditor group, which collectively holds over 40% of the bond, expressed disappointment over the government's handling of the situation, emphasizing that the proposed reduction is inconsistent with their assessment of Ethiopia's financial stability. The bondholders are now calling for greater transparency and a more collaborative approach to the debt restructuring process. Since defaulting on the bond in December 2022, Ethiopia has struggled to make meaningful progress in restructuring its debt. The government's surprise announcement to reduce the bond's principal to $800 million, citing the need to align with debt relief offered by official creditors, has further complicated negotiations. With the bond now trading at 77 cents on the dollar, the situation has raised concerns among investors about the future of Ethiopia's financial obligations and its overall economic trajectory. Despite securing a $3.4 billion financing program from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in July, the Ethiopian government has yet to provide clarity on its restructuring plans. The IMF, which did not comment on the proposed haircut, has set criteria for good faith negotiations, including timely dialogue and transparency. However, the lack of communication from Ethiopian officials has left bondholders uncertain about the path forward, with many questioning the viability of the government's current approach. • Arsenal Deterred by Osimhen's Steep Asking Price | Xtrafrica

Arsenal Deterred by Osimhen's Steep Asking Price Prince Jean Aug 14, 2024 Facebook X (Twitter) WhatsApp Copy link Arsenal may face challenges in acquiring top forward targets Victor Osimhen and Viktor Gyokeres, according to sources speaking with Football Insider. Credit:gettyimages Arsenal remains active in the summer transfer market, with potential forward acquisitions still under consideration, according to Football Insider. Despite the looming departures of Eddie Nketiah and Emile Smith Rowe—Nketiah's transfer to Marseille having recently fallen through—the North London club is poised to reallocate funds to strengthen their attacking lineup. Manager Mikel Arteta, along with Arsenal's recruitment team, is currently reassessing both their squad and available forwards across Europe. The Gunners have expressed a longstanding interest in Victor Osimhen of Napoli and Sporting CP's Gyokeres. However, securing either striker may prove financially challenging, as both are expected to command fees nearing the club-record £105 million paid for Declan Rice in 2023. Osimhen, with 76 goals from 133 appearances for Napoli since 2020, has positioned himself as one of the premier strikers globally and has attracted attention from high-spending clubs like Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain. Meanwhile, Gyokeres, although a relatively new face on the European scene, has made a significant impact by netting 43 goals in 50 matches during the 2023-24 season for Sporting. As the transfer window approaches its final weeks, Arsenal's strategy will be crucial in determining whether they can secure a top-tier forward without surpassing their budget constraints.
