Rayon vs. APR: The Ultimate Clash Confirmed for December 7 Prince Jean Nov 25, 2024 Facebook X (Twitter) WhatsApp Copy link Rayon Sports vs. APR FC showdown set for December 7, 2024, at Stade Amahoro. Credit:Igihe Finally, the long-awaited match between Rayon Sports and APR FC has been scheduled. This game, part of Rwanda’s Premier League Matchday 3, will happen on December 7, 2024. Originally, the match was supposed to take place on September 14, 2024, at Stade Amahoro, but it was postponed because APR FC was playing in the CAF Champions League. The Rwanda Premier League initially suggested October 19, 2024, as the new date, but APR FC requested a delay to complete their outstanding Matchday 1 and 2 games first. According to IGIHE, December 7 is now confirmed as the final date for the match since there are no more conflicts. Both teams can now begin their preparations. The league organizers have also asked the Ministry of Sports if Stade Amahoro will be available on that day to host the game. Additionally, the Rwanda Premier League is expected to release an updated calendar. It will show that the Matchday 12 game between APR FC and Police FC will be rescheduled. This adjustment is necessary because the Amavubi team will be preparing for their CHAN 2024 qualifier against South Sudan at that time. • Unresolved Delays: The Mystery Behind Rayon Sports vs APR FC Clash | Xtrafrica

Unresolved Delays: The Mystery Behind Rayon Sports vs APR FC Clash Prince Jean Nov 23, 2024 Facebook X (Twitter) WhatsApp Copy link Ongoing delays in the Rayon Sports vs APR FC match spark controversy as scheduling remains unresolved. There is still confusion over why the Rayon Sports vs APR FC match has been delayed. This game, originally set for September 14, 2024, at Stade Amahoro, was supposed to be part of Matchday 3 in the Rwanda Premier League. However, it didn’t happen because APR FC played a CAF Champions League qualifier at the same stadium on that day, drawing 1-1 with Pyramids. As a result, the game became a "pending match." Unlike other postponed games for APR FC, this one had already been included in the Rwanda Premier League schedule. However, the league organizers, Rwanda Premier League, had not prepared for APR FC and Police FC to advance past the first round of their continental matches, which made scheduling complicated. The initial rescheduled date for the match was October 19, 2024, but APR FC refused. They argued it was unfair to play a Matchday 3 game before clearing their two other pending games. On that day, APR also had a scheduled match against Gasogi United for Matchday 6, so the plan was canceled. The Rwanda Premier League later postponed matches due to the national team's preparations for a CHAN qualifier against Djibouti, held on October 27, 2024. Recent information suggests the league planned to reschedule the game for December 7, 2024. Both teams started preparing for this date, and Rwanda Premier League consulted the Ministry of Sports to ensure Stade Amahoro would be available. The ministry confirmed the stadium could host the match. The league also proposed holding Peace Cup games on the same date, freeing APR FC and Rayon Sports to play their delayed match since neither team would participate in the cup’s preliminary rounds. However, APR FC reportedly objected again, insisting they play the match only after the league’s first round concludes. This would ensure that they face Rayon Sports with a reduced points gap. Currently, APR FC is in 11th place with eight points from five games, while Rayon Sports leads with 20 points from eight games. If APR wins its pending games, they would trail Rayon by just three points before their showdown, assuming both teams continue winning. APR FC will play Bugesera next Wednesday for another delayed Matchday 2 game and faces Muhazi this week at Kigali Pelé Stadium . Attempts to contact Rwanda Premier League officials about the ongoing delay were unsuccessful, as none were willing to comment. • Recent Snowfall on South Africa's N3 Route | Xtrafrica

Recent Snowfall on South Africa's N3 Route Dallas Hughes Sep 21, 2024 Facebook X (Twitter) WhatsApp Copy link Several regions of the country are anticipating more snowfall, with orange warnings issued for these areas.© Wikus de Wet, AFP The N3 highway, a vital artery connecting Johannesburg to Durban, has been experiencing significant disruptions due to heavy snowfall, particularly affecting the stretch between Estcourt in KwaZulu-Natal and Harrismith in the Free State. This unusual weather event for late September has led to the closure of multiple sections of the N3, including Van Reenen's Pass, due to hazardous conditions like black ice and poor visibility. Impact on Travel: Motorists have been stranded for hours, with some even overnight, as rescue operations face challenges due to the adverse conditions. The snowfall has not only halted traffic but also led to the deployment of military and disaster management teams for rescue operations. Safety Measures: The N3 Toll Concession has advised travelers to avoid the route if possible. Efforts are underway to clear the roads, with the application of brine solutions to prevent ice formation and the use of graders to manage the snow. However, conditions remain treacherous, with areas like Oliviershoek Pass on the R74 also reporting stranded vehicles, including a school bus. Community and Institutional Response: Local and national efforts are in play, with the Gift of the Givers and other organizations providing assistance to stranded individuals. The South African Air Force has been involved in efforts to alleviate the situation, though helicopter operations have been limited by the weather. Weather and Climate Considerations: This event underscores the unpredictable nature of weather patterns, potentially linked to broader climate changes affecting South Africa. The heavy snow in regions not typically experiencing such conditions in late September points to a need for increased preparedness for variable weather events. This situation serves as a reminder of nature's unpredictability and the importance of infrastructure resilience in the face of climate variability. The N3's plight is not just a local issue but reflects global concerns about adapting to changing environmental conditions. Business and Industry Thika Cloth Mills Boosts Kenya’s Cotton Industry . • El Niño Drought Forces Families in Southern Africa to Marry Off Girls for Food | Xtrafrica

El Niño Drought Forces Families in Southern Africa to Marry Off Girls for Food Ayize claire Aug 19, 2024 Facebook X (Twitter) WhatsApp Copy link Young girl seen sieving traditionally wheat grain Southern Africa is facing an extreme drought caused by the El Niño weather phenomenon, leaving millions of people without access to food. The 2023-24 farming season has been severely impacted, with an estimated 56.8 million people struggling to find sustenance. As families grapple with this crisis, reports from ActionAid reveal a disturbing trend: young girls are being married off in exchange for food. This crisis has been described as the worst drought the region has seen in a century, according to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA). The drought, which began earlier this year due to insufficient rainfall, has devastated farming communities across the region. As a result, families are resorting to desperate measures, including early and forced marriages of young girls, to secure resources for survival. ActionAid’s report highlights how young women and girls are bearing the brunt of the crisis. With reduced access to essential services and the increased burden of unpaid care work, women are becoming more vulnerable to exploitation and gender-based violence. Emily, a 19-year-old from Zambia, expressed her concerns, noting that many girls now depend on their husbands for food, making them even more susceptible to abuse. The drought has also hampered efforts to keep girls in school, further exacerbating existing inequalities. Nyaradzo, a 24-year-old from Zimbabwe, voiced frustration over the lack of drought relief and government assistance, stating that young women are being left to fend for themselves. Ahead of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Ordinary Summit of Heads of State and Government, ActionAid called for urgent action to protect young women and girls. The charity urged SADC leaders to implement gender equality principles and prioritize flexible funding for women-led community protection initiatives. ActionAid stressed the need for a comprehensive gender analysis of the drought’s impact to ensure effective intervention strategies. • Raila Odinga Endorses Adani-JKIA Deal, Urges Transparency in PPPs | Xtrafrica

Raila Odinga Endorses Adani-JKIA Deal, Urges Transparency in PPPs Ayize claire Oct 14, 2024 Facebook X (Twitter) WhatsApp Copy link ila Odinga endorses the Adani-JKIA deal, calling for transparency and efficient handling of Public-Private Partnerships to boost Kenya's infrastructure development. The opposition leader Raila Odinga has supported the contentious Introduce Adani-JKIA deal and emphasized the importance of Public Private Partnerships(PPPs) in enhancing the infrastructure of Kenya. According to him, if properly managed, the 3ps present the best opportunity for Kenya’s economic problems during the ODM delegates’ retreat in Mombasa. He emphasized that the energy and airport initiatives promoted by the Adani Group are critical for assessing the country's competitiveness in the international infrastructure sector. Regarding Raila, the watershed moment in these projects may either propel or stop the surge of infrastructural development activities in Kenya for ages. “Given the country’s current debt, he added, ‘the various proposals put forth whereby manda PPP is not super cash sweet projects are wasted, PPP is the last option to go to avoid cash provoking projects.’ He noted that any further slippages on the side of the Kenyan authorities, as to whether they can implement the PPPs would tempt excessive stasis in progression of development and risk being overtaken by competition from surrounding nations. Polls in Kenya have indicated a high level of support for aid transparency and accountability that implies some constraints on how foreign funds, anticipated from PPPs, can be employed. Raila emphasized that accountability and reduction of red tapes and legal barriers should be prioritized in achieving successful implementation of PPPs. As such, he urged the authorities to respond to the concerns of the public with regard to the Adani arrangement as failure to do that would scare away much needed foreign investment. It is important to make sure that our procedures are clear-cut and remove any bureaucratic obstacles which may frighten away investors,” Raila said and pointed out that implementation of very stringent laws on PPP might dissuade investment in key sectors. People also read: Kenya Airport Strike Strands Hundreds due to Controversial Indian Adani group Takeover Citing some of the most serious problems, the ODM leader’s case was that there are a lot of infrastructure deficits in Kenya, especially in regard to transportation, energy and digital connectivity. Nonetheless, the state does not have capital to undertake such improvements only through taxation or debt. “People are already seeing some idea of the burden of additional taxes or more debt, and that is not a mood compatible with what the government would wish to borrow from the IMF and World Bank,” Raila said, explaining the popular opposition to such external debt. Adani's Investments in Kenya's Developmental Projects Responding to other worries concerning the Adani Group’s participation in the project, Raila touted the Indian Group as making great strides in the field of infrastructure in various countries. He said that he was first introduced to the company while serving as prime minister of Kenya, and before now, the current prime minister of India was chief minister of Gujarat. Raila hailed the accomplishments by Adani of changing the Indian aviation and shipping industries and believed that the group is capable of achieving similar results in Kenya. Bishop Mbonyintege Condemns Comedians Impersonating Clergy Prince Jean Dec 3, 2024 Facebook X (Twitter) WhatsApp Copy link Bishop Smaragde Mbonyintege calls for government intervention to stop comedians from impersonating priests and bishops, highlighting the harm caused to society. Bishop Smaragde Mbonyintege, the former Bishop of Kabgayi Diocese, has spoken out against comedians who impersonate priests and bishops. He called on the government to take swift action to address this growing issue, especially on social media platforms. In an interview with IGIHE , he said the Catholic Church sees such acts as harmful to the Church's image and believes they should not be allowed in the name of freedom of expression. He explained, “This is something we need to discuss with the government. If we are working together, anything that destroys the Church will ultimately harm the country in the long run. While freedom is important, there must also be limits to protect people's rights.” The bishop expressed concern that those engaging in these acts prioritize making money without considering the damage they cause to society, both to the government and the Church. He added, “If they don't act, it won't stop us from continuing our mission. But in the end, the consequences of such behavior fall more heavily on the government, not just the Church.” When asked why the Church does not openly condemn such actions, Bishop Mbonyintege stated that the Church consistently speaks out about these issues but does so in its own way.
