The summit matters because it comes as France faces reduced influence in parts of West Africa, where several military-led governments have cut security ties with Paris. The event, co-hosted by Kenya and France, is being held in Nairobi on May 11–12 and is framed as a partnership-focused forum for innovation and growth, according to the official summit platform . ADVERTISEMENT More than $1 billion in deals were announced around Macron’s Kenya visit, including a planned 700 million euro investment by CMA CGM to modernise a terminal at the port of Mombasa. It was also reported that Kenya and France signed 11 agreements covering areas including transport, agriculture and energy during Macron’s visit. For Kenya, the summit is also a chance to turn Nairobi into a platform for wider global talks. Foreign Minister Musalia Mudavadi told Reuters that Kenya wants key outcomes from the meeting to be taken up at next month’s G7 summit, where debt reform and fairer global financing are expected to remain central African priorities.
