- Lady Gaga Says Authenticity Still Defines the Future of Pop Music
Lady Gaga says authenticity and craftsmanship matter more than AI as she reflects on her Mayhem album, world tour, and future of pop music. Lady Gaga has emphasized the enduring importance of human creativity in music, arguing that authenticity and craftsmanship remain central to pop’s future despite the rapid rise of artificial intelligence. The global superstar marked a major return this year with Mayhem , her first studio album in five years, followed by an expansive world tour that reaffirmed her position as one of the most influential artists in contemporary pop. The Mayhem Ball tour has filled major venues worldwide, including a sold-out performance at Palau Sant Jordi in Barcelona in October. The tour is set to continue this summer with five shows across South America before extending into 2026 with approximately 30 additional dates in Asia and North America. The final concert is scheduled for April 13 at Madison Square Garden in New York. Reflecting on her return to the stage in a recent interview, Gaga addressed the growing presence of artificial intelligence in the music industry, stressing that technology cannot replace genuine artistic expression. She said that while pop music can be highly structured and polished, it still demands discipline, emotional depth, and human intention. Looking back on her recent creative journey, the singer described the past two years as a period defined by “craft,” highlighting the value of learning, curiosity, and simplicity in staying grounded as an artist. She noted that working on Mayhem reinforced those principles and reminded her that music remains her greatest teacher. Gaga also expressed skepticism about AI’s role in creativity, stating that delivering one’s best work authentically — across instruments, lyrics, melodies, and vocals — leaves no ambiguity about artistic effort or integrity. When asked about a potential collaboration with The Weeknd, the singer declined to offer details, saying only that she admires the artist and is a fan. February 17, 2024 – The United States has issued a strong condemnation of the escalating violence in the eastern regions of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), attributing the recent surge in hostilities to the M23 armed group, which is reportedly backed by Rwanda and sanctioned by both the U.S. and the United Nations. In a press statement released by Department Spokesperson Matthew Miller, the U.S. expressed grave concerns over the M23's recent incursions into the town of Sake, highlighting the heightened risk this poses to millions already suffering from human rights abuses, including displacement, deprivation, and direct attacks. The statement called for an immediate cessation of hostilities by M23, urging the group to withdraw from strategic positions around Sake and Goma in line with the Luanda and Nairobi peace processes. Furthermore, the U.S. explicitly condemned Rwanda's support for M23, demanding the withdrawal of Rwanda Defense Force personnel from the DRC and the dismantling of surface-to-air missile systems that pose a significant threat to civilians, UN peacekeepers, humanitarian actors, and commercial aviation in the region. Emphasizing the importance of sovereignty and territorial integrity, the U.S. appealed to all states to hold accountable those responsible for human rights abuses in the conflict. The call extends to the DRC government, which is urged to halt cooperation with the Democratic Forces for the Liberation of Rwanda (FDLR), labeled a "negative force" by regional bodies and the DRC government itself, due to the risks it poses to civilians. The United States reaffirmed its support for regional diplomatic initiatives aimed at de-escalating the situation and establishing conditions for a lasting peace in the DRC. The statement concluded with a call to all parties involved to engage constructively in negotiations to find a peaceful resolution to the conflict. As the international community watches closely, the situation in eastern DRC remains precarious, with the potential for further escalation posing a significant challenge to regional stability and peace. - Beyond Tokyo: Tyla’s ‘We Wanna Party’ Asia Run Hits Manila & Seoul
Tyla’s We Wanna Party tour ignites Asia as Manila, Seoul and Bangkok erupt with sold-out arenas, viral moments and unstoppable pop momentum. On 11 November, the We Wanna Party Asia Tour finally moved from Instagram fantasy to real-world sweat, opening in Tokyo as Tyla’s first full-scale headlining show since injury forced her to cancel a 2024 world run. The Ariake Arena date sold out its 15,000-capacity, a landmark moment for a 23-year-old South African pop star who has spent the last two years turning “Water” from TikTok trend into global calling card. From the minute the house lights dropped, you could feel that this wasn’t just another stop on a tour schedule; it was a reset button for an artist who’s been loudly manifesting “global pop star from Africa” and quietly rehabbing to get back on stage. Clips flooding YouTube and fan timelines show Tyla framed by towering LED panels and a tight squad of dancers, moving like one big popiano organism. The stage design leans into her visual language: chrome, yellows and club-ready strobes that echo the artwork for her WWP ( We Wanna Party ) EP, already past 100 million streams and counting. Japanese crowds have a reputation for being polite and reserved, but on the full-show uploads from the night you can hear them singing along to “Water” and “Truth or Dare,” word-perfect, phone flashlights bobbing like a low-lit ocean. But as every African touring story reminds us, nothing about global expansion is straightforward. When we first covered this Asia leg, Bangkok and Hong Kong were framed as part of a historic first wave: sell-out Thailand arena, Manila’s Mall of Asia, a clean five-city sprint from Tokyo to Singapore . Since then, real-world politics and logistics have come knocking. Thai outlets now report that her sold-out 14 November Bangkok show at Impact Challenger Hall 3 has been cancelled in observance of the national mourning period for the late Queen Mother Sirikit. Live-updating tour page also shows Hong Kong’s AsiaWorld-Expo date as cancelled “for unknown reasons,” even as new mainland China and Gulf shows are added to the route. Across stan forums and pop gossip threads , fans are debating everything from routing politics to over-ambitious scheduling a reminder that the business of putting an African woman at the centre of an Asian arena run is still fragile . What’s not fragile is the cultural subtext. A South African pop star, shaped by amapiano, gqom and Bacardi, just sold out a 15,000-cap arena in Tokyo a city that helped break everyone from Michael Jackson to BTS with an 11-minute EP and a handful of singles as her primary arsenal. On Tyla’s Instagram , the tone is breezy tour fits, rehearsal snippets, a quick “Asia, I love you already” energy but behind the grid is a highly organised push: the Pandora collab charm for her Tygers, the fashion-girl co-signs, the We Wanna Party EP doing numbers and seeding lyrics crowds in Tokyo now scream back to her. From here, the party snakes through mainland China, Southeast Asia and the Gulf, with arena and festival plays lined up from Hangzhou to Singapore, Mumbai, Riyadh and Dubai, according to the official tour hub at wewannaparty.asia . Uganda is on the brink of embracing the Single Africa Air Transport Market (SAATM), indicating a significant departure from its previous cautious stance on open skies. Fred Bamwesigye, the Director-General of Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCCA), highlighted that the nation's entry into SAATM is imminent, pending Cabinet approval. This move is expected to catalyze Uganda's aviation sector by enhancing connectivity and competitiveness, with the development of key infrastructures like Kabalega International Airport and the upgrade of Entebbe International Airport being pivotal for accommodating the anticipated surge in air traffic. The integration into SAATM is seen as a strategic step to bolster Uganda Airlines by expanding its network to major destinations such as Nigeria, Mumbai, South Africa, and the UAE. This expansion is facilitated by comprehensive consultations and agreements with stakeholders and the continental industry regulator, aiming to leverage the benefits of air market liberalization. The liberalization promises to unlock route access through the 5th Freedom rights, crucial for augmenting Africa's air transport connectivity. Despite concerns about the competitive impact on national carriers, the liberalization under SAATM is anticipated to yield significant benefits in the long run, akin to Morocco's experience with open skies in Europe. The initiative aligns with the goals of the 1999 Yamoussoukro Declaration, aiming to liberalize market access, ease ownership restrictions, and harmonize aviation safety and security standards. Uganda's accession to SAATM represents a commitment to enhancing intra-African connectivity, reducing airfares, and streamlining air travel across the continent. MultiChoice has reported a significant decline in its subscriber base, particularly in Nigeria, according to the company's financial results for the year ending March 31, 2024. The report reveals an 18% drop in active subscribers in Nigeria, reflecting the impact of the country's challenging economic conditions. The decrease in subscriptions underscores the shrinking disposable income among Nigerians due to a struggling economy, a sharp decline in the naira, the removal of fuel subsidies, and soaring inflation rates. "The Nigerian economy and consumers faced persistent challenges through FY24 (Fiscal Year)," MultiChoice stated. "The removal of fuel subsidies, sharp currency depreciation with the official naira halving in value, inflation climbing to over 30%, and higher emigration of the middle and upper class drove an 18% YoY decline in active subscribers (FY23: +13%)." The company's Return on Assets (ROA) from Nigeria dropped from 44% to 35%. This decline in the Nigerian subscriber base contributed to a 9% decline in the group's total active subscribers. “The group’s 9% decline in active subscribers was mainly due to a 13% decline in the Rest of Africa business as mass-market customers in countries like Nigeria had to prioritize basic necessities over entertainment, while the South African business showed more resilience with a 5% decline,” MultiChoice added. The reviewed period is noted as the toughest set of macroeconomic conditions for MultiChoice's Rest of Africa (ROA) business since 2016, with high double-digit inflation in many of the group's core markets significantly pressuring customer spending power. "The official and parallel naira exchange rates reached peaks of ₦1600:1USD and ₦1900:1USD respectively in February 2024, with several other African markets also experiencing extreme foreign exchange depreciation," Continue Reading Full Article June 14, 2024 at 2:44:41 AM May 15, 2026 at 3:03:38 PM 🕒 2 min read By Author Name Author Name Follow SHARE THIS ARTICLE Facebook X (Twitter) WhatsApp Copy link MultiChoice has reported a significant decline in its subscriber base, particularly in Nigeria, according to the company's financial results for the year ending March 31, 2024.
