Child Support, Foster Child and Care Dependency grants fall under Children’s grants. Grant-in-Aid is an extra grant attached to an Older Persons, Disability or War Veterans Grant. The government says it is paid together with the main grant. Its date therefore follows that main grant. SASSA did not give the War Veterans Grant its own line in the official August schedule. This guide does not guess a date. A War Veterans Grant recipient who is unsure should confirm through SASSA’s official toll-free number or local office. The dates above come from the Department of Social Development’s official 2026/27 SASSA schedule and the South African Government News Agency’s report on the schedule . Important note about linked grants Some payments are linked to a main grant or main grant account. For example, Grant-in-Aid is not a stand-alone grant and is paid with the Older Persons, Disability or War Veterans Grant to which it is attached. Do not assume that every amount in one household will always arrive on a separate day. Which grant is paid first? For August 2026, the confirmed order is: Older Persons Grant: Tuesday, 4 August 2026 Disability Grant: Wednesday, 5 August 2026 Children’s grants: Thursday, 6 August 2026 SASSA normally staggers the main permanent grants over three days to reduce congestion. The agency says it considers the national payment system, weekends and public holidays when setting dates. It generally avoids the first day of the month and Mondays, and it does not schedule these payments over a weekend. This normal order should never be used to invent dates for another month. Always check the official schedule because dates can change from one month or financial year to the next. How beneficiaries receive their grant money A beneficiary is the person who has been approved to receive a grant. Depending on the payment arrangement approved by SASSA, grant money may be received through: An active personal bank account in the grant recipient’s name. A Postbank account and card. An ATM that accepts the beneficiary’s bank or Postbank card. A retailer that accepts the card. Cash-back withdrawals may be available where the retailer offers that service. An approved cash-pay point on its specified collection day. An approved institution that administers the grant, such as a welfare organisation or care institution. The government’s grant service pages confirm payment by cash at a specified pay point, electronic deposit into a bank or Postbank account, or through an approved institution. Bank charges may apply. See the government’s Older Persons Grant payment information . Postbank says its SASSA debit card can be used electronically wherever the relevant card-network logo is accepted. The new Postbank Black Card works through national payment-system channels, including ATMs and retailers’ point-of-sale machines. Fees, cash-back rules, daily limits and participating locations can change, so check directly with the bank or retailer before transacting. Postbank Gold Card deadline Postbank has announced that all remaining SASSA Gold Cards will stop working on 31 August 2026 . People still using a Gold Card should contact Postbank or visit an official replacement site before the deadline. The replacement deadline does not change the confirmed 4 to 6 August grant-payment schedule. Use Postbank’s official website for the latest replacement sites and instructions. Do not pay anyone to obtain or “activate” a replacement card. ADVERTISEMENT Do you need to withdraw on the payment date? No. If the grant is deposited into a bank or Postbank account, you normally do not need to withdraw it on the first day. The payment date is the date on which the money should become available. Once paid into a normal bank account, the funds remain available until you spend or withdraw them. You can also use a valid card to pay for goods instead of taking all the money out as cash. Waiting a day or two may help you avoid crowded ATMs and shops. South African Police Service safety advice published through the government recommends considering a later withdrawal to avoid large crowds. When using an ATM or shop: Cover the keypad when entering your PIN. Never tell anyone your PIN, even if the person claims to work for SASSA or Postbank. Do not accept help from strangers at an ATM. Check that you have your card and cash before leaving. Avoid counting cash in public. If the machine keeps your card, contact the bank through an official number immediately. One missed payment day does not make money in a bank account disappear. However, do not ignore an unpaid or unclaimed grant for several months. Government grant pages warn that a grant may lapse if it is not claimed for three consecutive months. Contact SASSA if you have been unable to access a grant. August 2026 SASSA grant amounts The following amounts took effect on 1 April 2026 and apply in August 2026. The Foster Child Grant is scheduled to rise to R1 300 in October 2026, but its August amount remains R1 290. A means test is SASSA’s check of a person’s income and assets to decide whether the person qualifies. The amounts are supported by the official 2026/27 SASSA schedule and increase notice , the government’s current pages for the Older Persons Grant , Disability Grant , Child Support Grant , Foster Child Grant , Care Dependency Grant , War Veterans Grant and Grant-in-Aid . There is no official SASSA bonus for August 2026 and no general grant increase takes effect in August. Treat messages promising a bonus, double payment or extra August allowance as false unless SASSA or the South African government officially confirms them. SRD Grant payments The COVID-19 Social Relief of Distress Grant continues in August 2026. Government has extended it to 31 March 2027 at R370 per approved applicant per month . This is confirmed in the 2026 amendment regulations and the official government report on the 2026 grant amounts . SRD beneficiaries do not all have the same payday The SRD Grant is not part of the 4 to 6 August permanent-grant schedule. Each application is checked for the relevant month, and approved applicants can receive different paydays. Check the official SASSA SRD status page using the South African ID number and cellphone number used for the application. If SASSA has processed a payment, the status should show a payday. Do not travel to collect money until the status or official message shows that payment is ready. What the SRD status words mean Approved: SASSA approved the application for that month. Check the payday field. If there is no payday yet, the payment has not yet been processed. Pending: SASSA is still verifying the application for that month. Check again later. Payday: The date shown for the approved payment. This is the individual date the applicant should use. Declined: The application was refused for that month, and the status should give a reason. If the reason is wrong, the applicant may appeal through the official Department of Social Development appeals service. Bank details pending: SASSA received the application but still needs a payment method or banking details. Identity verification: SASSA requires the applicant to complete an identity check before processing can continue. These definitions are set out in SASSA’s official SRD application-status guide . Do SRD beneficiaries need to reapply? Do not submit a new application every month when the status says Application complete . SASSA’s status guide says a completed application is verified each month. If the portal says Reapplication pending , if an application was cancelled, or if SASSA specifically instructs the applicant to reapply or complete identity verification, follow the instruction on the official SRD site. Do not create repeated applications because an unofficial post says everyone must reapply. An applicant who was declined must appeal the decision for each declined month where they believe the reason is incorrect. Use only the appeal link reached through the official SRD website . How to check your SASSA payment status For an SRD Grant Open srd.sassa.gov.za . Choose the correct section for a South African ID holder, asylum seeker or special-permit holder. Select Application status or My application status . Enter the applicant’s ID number and the cellphone number used to apply. Submit the request and read the result for August 2026. If approved, look for the payday field. If declined, read the reason before using the official appeal channel. The official SRD WhatsApp number published by government is 082 046 8553 . Send a message and follow the prompts. Never share a banking PIN. An OTP, or one-time PIN, should be entered only in the official process that you started yourself. Visit a SASSA local office with the recipient’s ID and any SASSA notice or proof of application. ADVERTISEMENT What to do if your grant is not paid Do not panic. A missing payment can have several causes, including a bank delay, incorrect details, a blocked card, an incomplete review or verification, or a suspended grant. If the payment date has passed Check the bank or Postbank balance and recent transactions. Confirm that you are checking the correct payment date and grant category. Check for an SMS, letter or notice from SASSA about a review or verification. Call SASSA on 0800 60 10 11 or visit the nearest office. Keep the case number, date, official’s name and copies of any documents submitted. If the SRD status says approved but no money arrived Check whether a payday appears. “Approved” without a payday means no payment has been processed yet. If a payday has passed: Confirm the bank account is active and in the applicant’s own name. Check whether banking details are still being verified. Check the bank statement for a failed, reversed or returned credit. Contact the bank first for the transaction status, then contact SASSA with the result. If banking details are incorrect or the beneficiary changed banks Update the details only through the official SASSA process. SRD applicants can use the banking-details section on srd.sassa.gov.za . Permanent-grant recipients should contact SASSA or visit an office and complete the official bank-payment consent process. Do not close the old account until the change is verified if it is safe and practical to keep it open. SASSA says new SRD banking details are used for future payments only after verification. If a card is blocked, expired, lost or stolen Contact the card-issuing bank immediately. For a Postbank card, call 0800 53 54 55 . Do not give the PIN to a caller or person offering to “unblock” the card. Take an ID to an official Postbank service point if instructed. If you still use a SASSA Gold Card, arrange a move to the Postbank Black Card before 31 August 2026. If a payment was reversed Ask the bank or Postbank for the reason and a transaction reference. A payment can be returned when an account is closed, details do not match or the account cannot accept the credit. Take the reference and proof of the correct account to SASSA. If a grant was suspended or SASSA requested verification Read the notice carefully and respond by the date given. SASSA has warned that ignoring a review notice may lead to suspension or termination. Reviews are used to check whether the person still qualifies. Take the notice, ID, recent bank statements and any other documents requested to the designated SASSA office. Do not send documents to a number or email address that does not appear on an official SASSA or government page. If fraud is suspected Contact SASSA immediately on 0800 60 10 11. SASSA’s 2026 grant booklet lists 0800 701 701 for fraud reports. Contact Postbank if a Postbank card or account is involved. Ask the bank to block the card or account where necessary. Report theft or identity fraud to the South African Police Service. Keep screenshots, SMS messages, transaction records and case numbers. Changing banking details Only the grant applicant or properly authorised person should change payment details. The new account should normally be an active personal bank account in the grant recipient’s name. SRD banking-details change Go to srd.sassa.gov.za . Choose the correct applicant category. Select How do I change my banking details? Enter the applicant’s ID number. SASSA sends an OTP to the cellphone number used for the application. Enter the OTP in the official process. Follow the secure link and enter the new banking information. Check the status later to see whether verification is complete. SASSA says it cannot pay an SRD Grant into another person’s bank account. Permanent-grant banking-details change Contact SASSA or visit a local office. Be ready to provide: The beneficiary’s ID. Proof of the new active bank account. The completed official Consent Form for Bank Payment. Any extra identity or authority documents SASSA requests. The form requires the beneficiary to confirm that they are the true account holder. It is available through the SASSA Download Form Centre . SASSA does not publish a guaranteed processing time on its current SRD banking-change page. Verification can take time, and the new details are used only after they pass verification. Keep checking through official channels. Do not pay an agent or stranger to make the change faster. Never share: A bank-card PIN. An online-banking password. A full card security code. An OTP with someone who contacted you unexpectedly. SASSA’s 2026 grant booklet says SASSA will never request a bank PIN during an interaction with a grant recipient. Common SASSA scams to avoid Scammers often use urgent messages and false promises. Be careful of: Fake grant increases: A message claims every grant has increased when no official announcement exists. Fake bonus or double payments: SASSA has previously warned that false double-payment claims create false hope. Fake payment calendars: Dates copied from another month or year may look convincing but be wrong. Fake WhatsApp numbers: A scammer may copy SASSA’s logo and ask for personal information. PIN and OTP requests: No legitimate official needs your bank PIN to release a grant. “Confirm your payment” links: The link may steal an ID number, cellphone details or banking information. Release fees: SASSA does not require a private person to be paid before an approved grant is released. Card-repair scams: Postbank has warned about people pretending to be officials and taking cards and PINs. Fraudulent loan offers: Do not hand over a SASSA or Postbank card as security for a loan. Check that a lender is properly registered before signing anything.
