Entertainment Amber Rose criticises Ariana Grande over ICE protest call Amber Rose has criticised Ariana Grande’s call for a nationwide ICE protest, arguing that asking people to stop working ignores economic hardship. Published: January 31, 2026 at 9:26:42 AM Modified: January 31, 2026 at 9:26:42 AM Written By | Witty Pascal Entertainment Editor Witty Pascal According to the source article , model and media personality Amber Rose has publicly criticised pop singer Ariana Grande over a recent social media post encouraging Americans to participate in a nationwide protest against U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). The controversy followed an Instagram Story shared by Grande calling for a “nationwide shutdown” on January 30, urging people to refrain from work, school and shopping as part of a protest against ICE operations. The message circulated widely online and sparked debate, particularly among critics who questioned how such actions could affect people dependent on daily wages. Rose addressed the issue during a livestream conversation with social media figure Sneako, where she challenged the practicality of the call. She argued that encouraging people to stop working fails to reflect the economic pressures faced by many households and suggested that wealthy celebrities are often disconnected from those realities. During the livestream, Rose questioned whether high-earning public figures should promote forms of protest that involve financial sacrifice for others, especially when those promoting the message are not exposed to the same risks. She also broadened the discussion to celebrity involvement in political issues, referencing rapper Nicki Minaj and her interactions with former U.S. President Donald Trump. Rose said she had introduced Minaj to Trump and defended the rapper against criticism, citing Minaj’s charitable contributions and community support as more significant than political alignment. The debate surrounding ICE protests has intensified in recent weeks following deadly encounters involving federal agents. Earlier this month, a woman in Minneapolis was fatally shot during an incident involving an ICE officer, followed days later by another fatal shooting involving federal agents. These events prompted demonstrations in Minneapolis and other cities, with some local officials voicing concern over ICE enforcement practices. As public reaction continues, Rose’s comments have added to a broader conversation about celebrity activism, economic inequality, and the impact of political messaging on everyday Americans. Entertainment Swishahouse Founder Michael “5000” Watts Dies at 52 Michael “5000” Watts, founder of Swishahouse and a pioneer of Houston rap, has died at 52 after sudden cardiac death, his family said. Published: January 31, 2026 at 8:25:16 AM Modified: January 31, 2026 at 8:25:16 AM Written By | Witty Pascal Entertainment Editor Witty Pascal Michael “5000” Watts, the Houston DJ and music executive credited with helping popularize the city’s signature “chopped and screwed” sound, has died at the age of 52, according to the source article. Watts died on Friday, January 30, 2026, after being hospitalized at Memorial Hermann Hospital in The Woodlands, where officials confirmed his death. His family said he died from sudden cardiac death caused by a rare and fatal heart rhythm known as torsades de Pointes. Widely regarded as a central figure in Houston hip-hop, Watts founded Swishahouse Records and played a key role in shaping the city’s music identity during the 1990s. The “chopped and screwed” style he helped popularize is characterized by slowed tempos and repeated beats, creating a heavy, hypnotic sound that later influenced Southern rap more broadly. Over the course of his career, Watts is credited with helping launch or elevate the careers of several prominent artists, including Slim Thug, Paul Wall, Chamillionaire, and Mike Jones. In a statement, Watts’ family thanked fans for their support and asked for prayers as they mourn his passing. Swishahouse Records also paid tribute, describing him as more than a label founder and calling him a mentor, cultural curator, and advocate for creativity and ownership within music. Watts’ death marks a significant loss for Houston’s music community, where his influence extended beyond production into artist development and independent music entrepreneurship. Speaking during an interview on Thursday, January 29, Wode Maya explained that the decision to focus on Akropong was intentional and aimed at presenting Ghana’s culture, identity, and natural beauty within the technical limits of live streaming. He said the location allowed the team to authentically showcase Ghanaian life without logistical complications. Wode Maya noted that although some viewers expected IShowSpeed to visit destinations such as Cape Coast, the Volta Region, or northern Ghana, live-streaming constraints made extended travel impractical. He explained that the production required movement within short time intervals, limiting how far the team could go during the broadcast. As part of the Akropong visit, IShowSpeed was taken to nearby attractions, including a waterfall, where he experienced a massage. Wode Maya said these moments added depth and authenticity to the tour while keeping the stream engaging. He also highlighted the cultural importance of IShowSpeed being given a Ghanaian name by traditional authorities in Akropong, describing the gesture as a significant cultural connection that resonated with both local residents and international viewers. Wode Maya further praised the leadership of the Akropong traditional area, commending the cooperation and understanding shown during the visit. He said the experience reflected positively on youth involvement and leadership within traditional institutions. IShowSpeed ’s Ghana tour attracted widespread online attention, drawing millions of viewers worldwide and placing Ghana’s culture, people, and tourist sites in the global spotlight.
