From the endless moors of Tanzania’s Serengeti Wildlife Reserve, where creatures move about in one of the earth’s most dramatic migrations, to the surreal pale honeycomb of Egypt’s White Desert, you will not run out of places to visit when you travel to Africa.

Inviting islands, lofty mountain ranges, picture-perfect waterfalls, and historic cities—each destination featured in this compile list seems to call to be discovered and savored for its rich nature and culture, especially its fusion on the continent of Africa.

1.Serengeti National Park

The Serengeti National Park in Tanzania is famous for the annual migration of zebras, antelope, and other species to Kenya in search of greener pastures. It has been called one of the world's "most spectacular natural events."

2. Simien Mountains

The Ethiopian Highlands are truly a sight to behold. Due to millions of years of erosion, no two mountains in this area are the same. These mountains are not only home to a few medium-sized villages (despite the high altitude of the area), but also to several animal species.

3. Cape Town

As the second largest city in South Africa, it has a lot of wonderful things to offer the average tourist, from beautiful beaches to amazing cultural experiences (Cape Town is one of the most culturally diverse cities in the world). Cape Town itself is a very beautiful natural environment, including a large port and mountainous areas. Cape Town is the oldest city on the continent.

4. Rwenzori Mountains

The Rwenzori Mountains can be found in western Uganda as well as parts of the Democratic Republic of Congo. They are unique in that they accommodate both tropical and alpine climates. Mount Stanley, the third-highest mountain in Africa, is found in this range. The highest mountain in this range is covered in snow year-round.

  1. White Desert

This national park in Egypt is unique because of its large structures made up of chalk rock. Chalk rock is a limestone that is primarily composed of calcite. The White Desert is very popular among domestic Egyptian tourists, and has recently begun to gain popularity with international tourists as well.

6. Bemaraha National Park

On the amazing island of Madagascar lies the unique Bemaraha National Park, which features rock formations found nowhere else on Earth. Known as the “mineral forest,” the word “Tsingy” is a Malagasy word that means “to walk on tiptoes.” While the area is remote, visitors who are able to hike are rewarded with stunning views.

7.Djenné

Located in Mali, in northwest Africa, Djenné is considered one of Africa’s wonders and an example of the unique Sudano-Sahelian architectural style. Today, it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, most famous for its massive Great Mosque, which is sun-baked and palm-fortified.

8. Chefchaouen

If blue isn't your favorite color, that's before visiting this Moroccan town that is straight out of a fairytale. Located in the northwest of the country, Chefchaouen has existed as a city since the 19th century and remains a major draw for tourists today. If you choose to hike, you won’t be alone, as thousands of tourists visit this lovely blue city every year.

9. Mauritius

Although Mauritius is not usually in the media spotlight, this island nation located off the southeast coast of Africa in the Indian Ocean has all the makings of an ideal destination, from white sandy beaches to water with a shocking azure hue. Plus, the island nation remains home to some unique endemic species.

10. Victoria Falls

Aptly known as "Mosi-oa-Tunya" in Tokalia Tonga, which roughly translates to "the smoke that thunders," it is synonymous with the natural beauty of Africa.

Located on the Zambezi River and on the border between Zambia and Zimbabwe, this waterfall is 1,707 meters wide and 108 meters high. The falls are an amazing sight to behold, whether it is day or night, when visitors can see rainbows formed on the water of the falls by the light emitted by the sun or the moon.
