British actor Idris Elba, known for his roles in "Luther" and "The Wire,"

Elba is spearheading an ambitious project to transform Sherbro Island in Sierra Leone into an eco-friendly "smart city." With a heritage link to the island through his father, Elba's vision involves harnessing renewable energy and sustainable practices to revitalize the 19-mile beachfront gem.

The initiative, born from a desire to boost tourism, evolved into a groundbreaking plan for sustainable development. In partnership with childhood friend Siaka Stevens, Elba aims to maintain the island's pristine nature while introducing modern infrastructure, powered by a pioneering wind and solar farm. This project, a collaboration with Octopus Energy Generation, marks a significant step towards renewable electricity in Sierra Leone, where only 28% of the population currently has access to power.

Collaborations with global experts like Lloyds, Sasaki Associates, Foster & Partners, MIC-HUB, and PRDW underscore the project's comprehensive approach to planning, insurance, architecture, transport, and climate resilience.

While comparisons may be drawn to other high-profile African developments, Elba's commitment to Sierra Leone goes beyond financial returns. He envisions a legacy project that honors his heritage and fulfills a personal dream of making a significant impact on the continent's development narrative.
