In a significant move towards continental trade, Ghanaian enterprises are gearing up to conquer the African market through the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). Highlighted in President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo's 2024 State of the Nation address, Ghana's proactive engagement with AfCFTA positions it as a key player in East Africa, with successful inroads into Kenya and Tanzania.
Under the AfCFTA's Guided Trade Initiative (GTI), Ghana is set to export an array of over 700 certified products, including cosmetics, processed foods, and garments, to these markets.
Notably, Kasapreko Company Limited, a renowned local beverage manufacturer, has already started exporting to Kenya, marking a significant achievement in Ghana's trade journey.
The collaboration with the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) in launching the Pan-African Payment and Settlement System (PAPSS) is a strategic move to streamline cross-continental transactions, further enhancing trade efficiency.
With 88.3% of the Rules of Origin framework negotiated, Ghana stands out as a commendable example in implementing AfCFTA's vision for free trade across Africa.
