Despite the escalating needs, international funding has fallen short. "The international response has been pitiful. We're at 5% of the needed amount," stated U.S. Special Envoy Tom Perriello, emphasizing the urgency for increased contributions. The U.S. has pledged an additional $100 million, boosting its total commitment to over $1 billion in humanitarian aid.

Top diplomats from France, Germany, and the European Union are rallying to intensify support for Sudan during a crucial conference in Paris, marking one year since the outbreak of the devastating conflict in the African nation.

French Foreign Minister Stéphane Séjourné, alongside German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock, EU's top diplomat Josep Borrell, and Commissioner for Crisis Management Janez Lenarčič, spearhead the funding initiative.

The conference aims to address the dire humanitarian crisis in Sudan, triggered on April 15, 2023, by clashes between the Sudanese army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF). The ongoing violence has dismantled infrastructure, raised the specter of famine, and displaced millions both within and beyond Sudan's borders.

The meeting will culminate with French President Emmanuel Macron engaging EU leaders Borrell and Lenarčič to further discuss the support measures.

With thousands of civilian casualties and accusations of war crimes on both sides, the international community's consolidated efforts at the Paris conference underscore a pivotal moment in global diplomacy and humanitarian advocacy for Sudan.
