The upcoming 10th Africa Magic Viewers' Choice Awards (AMVCA) has officially unveiled its list of
nominations, signaling an exciting season for African cinema. Announced on Sunday, March 24, 2024, this year's AMVCAs introduces a notable change in its voting process for key categories including Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor, and Best Supporting Actress, which will now be adjudicated by a distinguished jury panel, moving away from the traditional public voting system.
Leading the nominations is Tolu Ajayi's cinematic masterpiece "Over the Bridge," which has impressively garnered 12 nominations across major categories such as Best Movie, Best Director, and Best Lead Actress. Close on its heels is CJ Fiery Obasi's visually striking "Mami Wata," earning 11 nods, while both "Breath of Life" and "Jagun Jagun - The Warrior" are tied with 10 nominations each.
The blockbuster hit "A Tribe Called Judah" sees Timini Egbuson and Funke Akindele contending for Best Supporting Actor and Best Actress respectively, contributing to the film's total of five nominations. Other notable contenders include "Blood Vessel" with eight nominations and "Afamefuna" with four.
