Raila Odinga meets Namibia’s President Mbumba

Former Kenyan Prime Minister Raila Odinga met with Namibia’s President, Dr. Nangolo Mbumba, at State House in Windhoek on Wednesday as part of his campaign for the African Union Commission (AUC) chairmanship.

Raila shared that their discussions focused on his vision for Africa and his request for Namibia’s support in the upcoming AUC elections. He expressed gratitude to President Mbumba for hosting him and allowing them to engage on important continental matters.

"We appreciate H.E. President Dr. Nangolo Mbumba for welcoming us at State House in Windhoek. We used this opportunity to discuss our African Agenda and my bid for the African Union Chairmanship," Raila stated.

This meeting followed his earlier engagement with Zimbabwe’s President, Emmerson Mnangagwa, who pledged to back Raila’s candidacy.

Raila has been actively seeking support from leaders across Africa ahead of the February 25, 2025 elections in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

To secure the AUC chairmanship in the first round, he will need at least two-thirds of the votes.
