A family in Kirinyaga is mourning after their 13-year-old daughter was raped, killed, and her body left in a coffee farm.

Relatives said the Grade 7 student left her family at home around 10 a.m. but was later found dead just a short distance from their house.

Police reported that the girl had been assaulted and strangled. A piece of cloth was tied around her neck, and her body appeared to have been dragged. Blood was seen coming from her ears and nose, and her underwear was missing.

The body was moved to the Kirinyaga County Referral Hospital mortuary as police started investigations into the case.
