Candidates can repeat their exams, whether fully or partially, regardless of when they first sat for the KCSE, as long as they show evidence of prior registration for the exams

The Kenya National Examinations Council (Knec) has announced that the registration fee for the July 2025 KCSE examination series will be Sh7,200. This fee applies to individuals retaking the exam, private candidates, and adult learners aiming to improve their secondary school grades.

According to Knec, the registration window for these exams opens on January 27, 2025, and will close on February 21, 2025, with no possibility of late registration once the deadline has passed.

"The registration period for the 2025 KCSE examination — July series will commence on Monday, January 27, and end on Friday, February 21, 2025," stated Knec.

Candidates are required to pay the registration fee through the E-Citizen platform during the registration process as indicated on the KNEC registration platform. "Please note that fee payment is mandatory for successful registration."

Those looking to improve their scores, whether opting to retake full or partial subjects, will need to pay this fee. Knec emphasized,

"All repeaters and private candidates must register for the July series and not the November KCSE examination series."

Candidates can repeat their exams, whether fully or partially, regardless of when they first sat for the KCSE, as long as they show evidence of prior registration for the exams.

Registration must be completed at county headquarters for most candidates, and at Knec Headquarters in Nairobi's New Mitihani House, South C, for candidates in Nairobi.

"Candidates wishing to register for the July series are therefore expected to present themselves at their respective County headquarters within the stipulated period to complete the registration process," Knec stated.

A timetable has also been issued for the KCSE examination July series. Practical subjects such as Art and Design, Agriculture, Woodwork, Metalwork, Building Construction, and Computer Studies will commence their projects from January and conclude in July 2025. The theory and practical examinations are scheduled from July 1 to August 1, 2025.

The examinations will be held at designated centers, confirmed by the County Directors of Education. Entry into these centers will require proof of eligibility, such as a national identity card, birth certificate, or passport.

Candidates must also inform the registration officials of the sub-county where they intend to complete their project work. Following registration, candidates must promptly visit the offices of their Sub-County Directors of Education (SCDEs) to be assigned a center for their projects.

All concerns and queries regarding registration should be addressed through the offices where the candidates registered.

"It is the responsibility of the candidates to follow up with their respective contact offices to ensure that they are duly registered, confirm the accuracy of their registration data; and get information on the venue(s) for rehearsals and administration of the examination," highlighted Knec.

Finally, the grading and certification of candidates who participate in the July series will adhere to the existing KCSE examination regulations. Those who retake seven or more subjects will receive a KCSE examination certificate, while those retaking fewer subjects will receive a result slip for the repeated subjects.
