Kakamega residents heckled MP Johnson Manya as he backed Ruto
Some residents of Kakamega on Monday booed and interrupted Mumias West MP Johnson Manya while he was speaking in front of President William Ruto.
The MP had urged locals to support Ruto’s re-election in 2027, but the crowd reacted negatively, asking him to leave the stage. He later responded, saying he does not engage in politics but will personally vote for Ruto’s second term.
Meanwhile, Mumias East MP Peter Salasya criticized the government for deducting too much from Kenyans' salaries. He also questioned the source of funds used for farmers’ bonuses, stating that the money was not in the budget. Salasya further suggested that the President lacks good advisors, even offering to take up the role himself.
Despite facing opposition, President Ruto assured the public that he remains focused on development projects such as affordable housing.
Speaking at Mumias Sugar Factory, where he was distributing a KSh 150 million bonus to sugarcane farmers, Ruto dismissed his critics. He stated that political disagreements would eventually settle and that Kenyans would judge leaders based on their performance rather than social media debates.
At the same time, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua is working on a political comeback. Since the festive season, he has been meeting with businesspeople, local leaders, and 2027 election aspirants at his home in Nyandarua County. His goal is to strengthen his influence in the Mt Kenya region by replacing MPs who turned against him.
Reports indicate that Gachagua’s strategy is aimed at challenging those who voted for his impeachment. He is expected to reveal his next political steps soon. However, Gatanga MP Edward Muriu, one of Gachagua’s rivals, dismissed the plan as ineffective, arguing that Mt Kenya voters have already moved on.
