Joburg Water considers Level 2 restrictions as demand surpasses supply

The city uses over 1.7 million liters of water daily

Joburg Water is considering Level 2 water restrictions due to high demand for water, which exceeds what the system can supply.


Senior manager Logan Munsamy explained that the city uses over 1.7 million liters of water daily. He said this creates a big gap between usage and supply.


The utility has started cutting off illegal water connections to address the issue. They reported losing significant amounts of water to defaulters and hijacked buildings.


Recently, about 20 buildings in the Joburg CBD were disconnected, and Joburg Water plans to target other areas next.
