Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has intensified his criticism of President William Ruto, accusing him of mistreating Public Service CS Justin Muturi over his perceived defiance of Ruto’s administration.
Speaking during a TikTok live session on Thursday, Gachagua highlighted growing dissatisfaction with President Ruto’s leadership, attributing it to unpopular policies and alleged betrayal of the Mt. Kenya region.
He cited an incident during the burial of Eric Mutugi, the son of former Embu Senator Lenny Kivuti, where mourners heckled as CS Muturi prepared to read Ruto's condolence message. Gachagua alleged that Ruto sent abusive messages to Muturi, accusing him of inciting the crowd.
“It’s unnecessary to harass Muturi. They’re claiming he organized the rejection of Ruto’s condolence message, which is untrue. CS Muturi was insulted by the president,” Gachagua said. “Ruto sent him offensive messages, accusing him of incitement.
That’s unfair. The rejection came from the people of the mountain, who feel betrayed and deceived.”
CS Muturi has recently made headlines for questioning government actions, particularly on cases of abductions. This has drawn backlash from Ruto’s allies, who have since called for Muturi’s resignation.
During the live session, Gachagua emphasized that the Mt. Kenya region would remain united against the Kenya Kwanza government and warned the Western region not to fall for Ruto’s political strategies.
“I caution Western Kenya to be wary. The president spent five years convincing us to vote for him, but now he no longer visits because we see through the deception. Don’t fall for the same trap,” he warned.
Gachagua also addressed recent political meetings at his Wamunyoro home, explaining that he is gathering public opinions to shape his next steps. He clarified that these meetings are not endorsements of any political agenda or leader.
“I believe in people-centered decisions, which is why I’m consulting widely. I hoped to present a report by January 31, but the process is challenging due to the overwhelming feedback,” he said. “
Meeting with political leaders isn’t about endorsements. Some may want to associate with me for political gain, which is fine, but I’ve opened my doors to everyone.”
