At least 60 people have died after the Arbat dam burst in Sudan’s Red Sea state, following heavy rainfall. The dam, which holds 25 million cubic meters of water, is the primary source of drinking water for Port Sudan, where the military government is based.

Torrential rains have ravaged the country, compounding the devastation of the ongoing civil war.

The dam's collapse has wiped out villages and farms, and search efforts continue, with fears that the death toll could rise. Local reports indicate that people were trapped in vehicles and homes, with entire areas being swept away.

Sudan's air force is assisting with rescue efforts, while a communication outage caused by damaged fiber-optic cables has further complicated relief operations. The army chief has called for all available resources to assist those affected.
