People across the country are surprised after ODM leader Raila Odinga shared his goals for a political deal with President William Ruto. Reports say that under this agreement, which was discussed at Mombasa State House on Monday, Raila could get up to half of the cabinet positions and other top government jobs.
If everything is finalized, the deal might be implemented as early as next week. Raila has hinted at making a big announcement soon. This move has divided opinions among Kenyans—some believe it’s just a way to gain power, while others think it could bring political stability.
Political expert Oscar Malcomx Jr. suggests that a coalition between Ruto, Raila, Mudavadi, Duale, and Joho could dominate politics and even remove the need for a competitive election.
However, critics like Danie Ngash argue that Raila should face political defeat for his past mistakes and accuse him of taking advantage of situations for his own gain.
Many people on social media are discussing this deal, with some comparing it to the 2008 grand coalition government and the 1997 NDP-KANU partnership. Anthony Kipkoech Koskei pointed out that history seems to be repeating itself with the possible UDA-ODM alliance.
As Kenyans wait for Raila’s official statement, there is a lot of speculation about whether this agreement will create more political division or shape the 2027 election in a new way.
