With nearly two decades of experience, Mazuruse has worked with a range of organizations, from development agencies to public and private enterprises. “I am an accomplished media and communications professional with over close to two decades of experience, including significant roles within the international Red Cross movement, other leading development organisations and aid agencies, embassies, mining companies, banks, retail and manufacturing giants as well as start-ups and creatives,” he said.
Mazuruse highlighted the value of his experience in guiding successful communication campaigns across sectors and praised his team of creative professionals, stating,
Using my experience working with brands across sectors, I am proud to have championed successful communications campaigns for various organizations. I also work with a team of talented and committed creatives who make the work a lot easier and results-based. This platinum accolade in honour of our communications industry exploits is thus encouraging and humbling at the same time a challenge for us to continue embodying the highest level of professionalism in our work.”
Having served with global organizations like the Red Cross, Mazuruse has honed his skills in strategy development, media relations, and project management. “I have a diverse background working with various organizations which helped in honing my skills in strategy development, internal and external communications, media relations, and project management,” he said.
His work in varied communication roles developed his multitasking abilities and commitment to accountability. Currently, he is furthering his digital studies to stay current with trends.
Additionally, Mazuruse has managed talents within the local creative industry and organized events, though he considers these a secondary focus.
He shared that part of his work involves collaborating with influencers to enhance campaign reach: “Our work also requires that we engage influencers and local talents as a way to enhance our communications campaigns and I am proud to say I have worked with some of the big names in the local industry dating back to my communications role with the Red Cross where we roped in the influential sungura musician Alick Macheso under International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) endorsed ‘working with celebrities’ drive to amplify our humanitarian voice and enhance local fundraising.”
Mazuruse expressed gratitude for his family’s support, which he credits as his inspiration, saying, “I believe in the beauty of family and that ideal continues to inspire me in my line of work. I have a beautiful wife and kids who continue to be my pillar and support systems even when the going gets tough.”
Committed to lifelong learning, Mazuruse aims for a global impact in the communications industry. As an alumnus of the Barack Obama-founded Young African Leaders Initiative and a past national coordinator for Zimbabwe, he has received several accolades, including Young Public Relations Practitioner of the Year and Communications Practitioner of the Year awards, as well as a spot in the 40 Under 40 list.
