Samsung unveiled its latest gadgets during the annual Unpacked event. The highlights were the new foldable phones from the Galaxy Z series and various accessories, all integrated closely with Samsung's Galaxy AI technology. Let's dive into what's new.
The new devices, including smartphones, smartwatches, and earbuds, were available for purchase in the U.S. started on July 24, with pre-orders already underway. Here’s a quick look at the prices converted to USD:
Galaxy Z Fold 6 - from $2,490 to $3,010.
Galaxy Z Flip 6 - from $1,570 to $1,700.
Galaxy Watch 7 - from $340 to $370.
Galaxy Watch Ultra - $785.
Galaxy Buds 3 - $196.
Galaxy Buds 3 Pro - $262.
The Galaxy Z Fold 6 now features a wider screen and a shorter body. Its 7.6-inch internal screen boasts a max brightness of 2600 nits.
It also has a more traditional 6.3-inch external screen, enhancing usability when folded. Enhanced Galaxy AI features include neural network processing for text and video, first introduced with the Galaxy S24 earlier this year.
Additional capabilities like real-time text and speech translation, and creative photo enhancements are part of the package. The phone is rated IP48, meaning it’s protected against prolonged immersion in water and dirt, although exposure to fine dust and salt water is discouraged.
Battery life remains steady with a 4400 mAh capacity, supporting 45W fast charging, wireless, and reverse charging. The camera setup is unchanged, but improved AI and algorithms promise better photos. The phone includes two selfie cameras, one on the external screen and another under the internal screen.
The Galaxy Z Fold 6 is available in gray, pink, and blue.
The Galaxy Z Flip 6 boasts an upgraded 50 MP wide-angle camera and a larger 4000 mAh battery, promising a full day’s charge. An enhanced cooling system boosts gaming performance and battery longevity. Its improved hinge and reinforced frame make the phone sturdier and less prone to visible creasing. Available colors for the Flip 6 include blue, yellow, gray, and mint.
Both phones offer AI features that streamline searches, format text, and even generate creative content like poems and jokes. An AI assistant in the browser summarizes articles, while an audio transcription feature provides translated summaries.
For smartwatches, the Galaxy Watch 7 and Ultra are equipped with a dual-frequency GPS and a 3-nm processor, improving performance and battery efficiency. The Ultra model features a brightness of 3000 nits and is made from durable materials like titanium and sapphire glass, making it suitable for swimming and snorkeling.
The Essentials of Galaxy Buds 3 and Buds 3 Pro
The Galaxy Buds 3 and Buds 3 Pro feature designs optimized for different environments. The Buds 3 have an open design suitable for less noisy settings, while the Buds 3 Pro offer enhanced noise cancellation. AI functions include adaptive noise suppression, an adaptive equalizer, and improved call quality through Ultra Wide Band technology.
The Buds 3 have an open design. They don't have a silicone "nose," so they're not great for public transportation or other noisy environments. But for some users, this fit is more comfortable, and they won't interfere with hearing an approaching car while jogging.
Buds 3 Pro have improved noise cancellation and backlighting. The headphones with a "vacuum" design and active "noise cancellation" cut out more external sounds such as the hum of transport, repair work, or the hum of voices in the office.
The legs now have white LED strips. They flash in the case to indicate the charge level or in search mode if the earphone falls into a dark place. When in use, the flashing light can be turned off or left on at the user's discretion.
The Buds 3 and Buds 3 Pro have an IP57 rating. This means they are dust-proof and fairly resistant to moisture. You shouldn't swim in the pool with them. But you don't have to worry about getting caught in a downpour or sweating during a workout.
Buds 3 have become slightly lighter. The headphones weigh 4.7 grams versus 5 grams for the previous model. At the same time, the shape has completely changed - now they have a stem, like most other models on the market.
There is synchronization with other pairs of Buds 3. Thanks to Auracast technology, owners of several pairs of headphones can listen to music and watch movies together on Samsung devices.
What AI features do the Z Fold 6 and Flip 6 have?Â
Galaxy AI simplifies search queries. On the Z Fold 6 and Flip 6 , as well as on other more or less relevant Samsung flagships, you can circle an object on the screen or point the camera at an object to quickly find out information about it. If you point the camera at text, a special icon will appear to quickly extract and translate everything.
Personal AI editor. Samsung flagships have the ability to format text, change its style, analyze information, highlight the main idea, and also check for spelling and punctuation.
In new folding models, the editor can also supplement the text or compose entire texts, poems and jokes on a given topic. In other Samsung devices, this option will appear with future updates.
AI capabilities extend to creating personalized workout programs and providing health assessments, including sleep analysis and bioimpedance analysis to measure body composition.
