DRC Calls for Global Action on Natural Resources and Peace
The Democratic Republic of the Congo has launched an international initiative at the United Nations to push for stronger global rules on natural resource governance, arguing that responsible management of critical minerals should help prevent conflict, not fuel it.
As President of the UN Security Council for July 2026, the DRC is leading discussions on closing legal gaps that allow resource exploitation to contribute to instability, while promoting transparency, traceability, peace and shared prosperity.
A high-level debate chaired by President Félix Tshisekedi is scheduled for July 22 under the theme: "Natural Resource Governance as a Foundation for Peace, Security and Prosperity."
